  1. One of the things I've long admired about Chilling Effects is that much of their focus is on how excessive copyright protection chills free speech.

    Writers often have a knee-jerk desire for as much Free Speech -- and as much copyright protection -- as possible. But they fail to realize that Free Speech and copyright are in conflict. More of one means less of the other.

    Fair Use as a First Amendment-based limitation on copyright.

    Big Media companies, through the MPAA and RIAA, keeping trying to limit Fair Use and stifle the internet.
