Chilling Effects is a website that tracks free speech, censorship, and intellectual property concerns, if that's something you're interested in following.

  1. One of the things I've long admired about Chilling Effects is that much of their focus is on how excessive copyright protection chills free speech.

Writers often have a knee-jerk desire for as much Free Speech -- and as much copyright protection -- as possible. But they fail to realize that Free Speech and copyright are in conflict. More of one means less of the other.

Fair Use as a First Amendment-based limitation on copyright.

Big Media companies, through the MPAA and RIAA, keeping trying to limit Fair Use and stifle the internet.
